Mr Godfrey Evans started work at the tender age of 16 at Cockatoo Docks, Balmain, Sydney. He completed a five year apprenticeship in ship building worked at the Ballina slipway for the next 20 years.
Mr Evans then transferred to Townsville where he was asked by the CEO of the port to build model ships for the Port Authority Museum.
He built 10 models for the museum until retirement.
Mr Godfrey Evans retired to Burpengary in 1997 where he started building model ships for the Ballina Naval and Maritime Museum.
Mr Evans has constructed over 30 model ships in this time. His models are scattered all over Australia.
